About

I'm Olivia Lane. I am a native New Yorker living a charmed life in an old house in the Fox Point neighborhood of Providence, RI with my programmer boyfriend Richard and a cat called Lucy. I studied writing and studio art at Hunter College and continue to live creatively.

My hobbies include making art, getting people excited about green cleaning, celebrating my Goddesshood, organizing gatherings with my girlfriends, organizing clothing and book swaps, participating in JourneyDance, and daydreaming. I'm a manager at Craftland, a shop specializing in handmade gifts by North American independent artists. I also volunteer with The Secret City, an Obie Award Winning arts organization serving the spiritual, social and human needs of artists.

I am an unabashed tree- and cow-hugger. I became vegan in 2002 after reading Why Vegan and figuring there had to be a way I could live the fantastic life I deserve without contributing to so much harm to animals and the environment. In 2004, I toured across the country, with Ziggy Marley and Common, on the Roots Rock Reggae Festival to promote veganism for PETA2.

I co-founded SuperVegan.com, a lifestyle and culture blog featuring a NYC veg restaurant guide. While serving as editor between 2005 and 2008, we received over 1,000 visitors daily. We won VegNews magazine's 2006 VegWebby Award for Best New Website. In 2009, the same magazine named me one of the "Top 20 Vegans Under 30."

Other great companies I've worked for include: Satya- a magazine focused on animal advocacy, environmentalism, and social justice; Lantern Books- a publisher also focusing on those same issues; Angelica Kitchen- a vegan restaurant that serves amazing dishes created from local, organic, and seasonal produce; and Sustainable NYC, a boutique specializing in eco-friendlier versions of everyday products and gifts.
